If anyone has a foot in both camps this year id wait till the CC send their offer before deciding( why would anyone have any trouble deciding!!) No change in the contract ...still telling you to work extra unpaid hours as instructed with no chance of any more pay DOHHHH!
anyway im back in the Med for a dip....Anyone coming?

Well Campertastic, I take it you no longer work for the CCC is that right? I'm sure with your strong opinions you must be ex staff. Mist people take the job fir the life style change not the hours, we all know you work more hours than contracted but rota'd right we don't do so many that it makes us want to leave.

Ive had a chance to look at the new C&CC club contract over a few a beers with past and present HSA and AW. Whilst the new CC contracts are not out yet this seems a good time to highlight the changes brought in ,we presume ,by Jenny Jackson's replacement.
A The contract has no named site and has a provision that you can be moved to any site to suit the club.
B " the club reserves the right to vary employees normal hours" condition 8.3 .. so you can be moved to another site without argument and your hours cut to suit
C the usual scandalous clauses which allow the C&CC to encourage managers to pressure staff to work unpaid . such as 8.1 "employees may be required to work extra hours" 8.4 " the employee will also be required to cover standby time on a rota basis" 6.4 " the employee shall not be paid for any hours worked in addition to contracted hours"
and then the cheek of it they ask you to sign away your right not to work more than 48 hours!!!!! which you will be doing for free.....uuuggghhhh! clause 9.0 "working time opt-out"
ITS ENOUGH TO DRIVE YOU TO DRINK
which we cant do now as pointed out by another member on here
clause 22 " may search individuals and bags for alcohol in employees possession "
i dont know about a catheter bag fitted i gonna try the bottle in the cistern tank like we did at school

So why are you working more than your contracted hours? Section 4 and 5 of the Human Rights Act, "all work shall be paid", we have the National Mininmum Wage, which clearly says there is no such thing as standy time - you can claim back six years. All easily found on Internet, just need the gumption to stand up for yourselves and take them on!
Another point you all seem to forget, without Holiday Site Assistants the club "do not have a business"!!!
Yes it may of been a way of life once, but what your being asked to do for the club now, it's a job and such be treated as such.

Well the CC have allocated places for next year with contracts following shortly. its not a bad offer about 45-46 hours for first years and at £6.70 . and no name badges and you let campers pitch themselves and pop back in the office to tell you which pitch they like( now that's a real friendly club!!)
for a first year the wage for a couple is about £1000 per month extra when you factor in the higher hourly rate and the fact they pay you for all the hours you work.
we will report back when all the contracts have been received and we can have a look at theM side by side in the sun over a few beers....but its looking like the CC staff down here will be buying the HSA,s a few beers to comiserate

Ive had a think and were going to write several posts comparing CC and C&CC CONTRACTS, were going to split it into sections as follows
1 comparison of the 2 major clubs, why you might want to work for them
2 application process (application, assessment and HR dept style etc )
3 contract condition ...wages,extras pitches and sites provided
4 health
5 what if it all goes wrong
NOTE points 2 to 5 will be objective ,simply comparing whats on offer ,,written without opinion ...whereas point 1 has been compiled from the drunken ramblings of past and present AW / HSA
1 THE TWO MAJOR CLUBS
Both major clubs were founded as member driven organisations dedicated to a principle of self-help......a principle popular at the start of the 1900.People clubbed together and bought land, built basic campsites and camped/caravanned/rallied. These clubs collected "subs" had well meaning committees and used the skills of volunteers and family members to help run the clubs.....anyone aged 50+ will remember these kind of clubs...football/swimming/travel/scouts/guides....it was a kinda golden age
Sadly things have changed
Whilst both clubs remain "clubs" they have both lost there hearts to business....( dont worry im not a looney leftwinger )...whilst any club must be organised competently and kept financially sound ,both clubs have moved into a different world. The clubs have experimented with drastic "re-themeing ",membership drives into non member demographics, dodgy land deals,active/easy-jet style pricing ,camping pods( hated to a man by all staff).
differences still exist
the C&CC is less under HQ guidance ,club sites have more individual feel and standards of management and staffing vary widely.Sites attract more of a mix of caravans /MH /tents and this can make more work for HSA on site. The C&CC also have introduced a strange layer of management called RSMs ...a system whereby an experienced campsite manager is given responsibility for a group of sites in his area.....with little extra money and no authority they are seen as next to useless by most staff.
The CC regard themselves as the cream and look down their noses at the C&CC,most CC staff dislike campers and see them as a nuisance...the kinda people who "walk mud into the showers" and drink out of beer cans at all hours. The staff can come across as a bit "Hyacinth Bouquet/Victor Meldrew "!That said the CC offer far better wages, training, facilities and look after staff.
THE REAL PROBLEM As anyone who has ever worked on a site will know the real problem is your fellow staff.....whilst dodgy customers will moan and complain they are only staying for a week and will leave taking their sad faces with them. Sadly dodgy staff stay the whole season. Whilst both clubs have lots of nice staff they are also cursed with the same mix of dodgy staff ..its a yearly lottery ....some years you win some years you loose
SO YOU STILL WANNA WORK FOR A CAMPING CLUB ? If youve got a thick skin, can keep your own council and have an ability to smile at people you hate then read on

TERMS
This years contracts from CC and C&CC state for first years
WAGES CC £6.70 per hour C&CC £6.50 Per hour
WEEKLY HOURS PAID CC average offered about 46, C&CC ABOUT 36/38
CONTRACT LENGTH ( a bit up in the air but CC contracts are longer usually) CC 6 months C&CC 3/4 MONTHS
MILEAGE PAYMENTS CC 78p a mile C&CC ABOUT 45P
TRAVELLING/SET-UP DAYS....C&CC NO you travel to site and set up in your own time ...but they pay mileage
CC you get paid a days wage to drive to site and another days wage to set up your unit...plus mileage from your home at about 78p per mile
PITCHES both clubs promise a serviced pitch if POSSIBLE this depends on site but the CC are better at this as they often have dedicated "pods " for staff with a shower and washing machine
TRAINING....oh dear!!!!! C&CC ad-hoc on site manager controlled and delivered ( you can guess the standard and if any happens cant you?)
CC a weeks paid training with full board and serviced pitch with travelling mileage......only bad point is that it didnt include the booking system ( DUH)
UNIFORM AND PPE both clubs provide ass/insurance claim covering steel toe-cap boots and an institutional looking uniform .
PPE is provided by both clubs but the CC insist you order it all before your training course and use it. the C&CC rely on staff ordering from site as needed( not so good as most/some staff are ill-informed what they should be wearing( hearing protection for petrol hand held mowers for example)
SHOP the CC advise all staff to come to a profit sharing agreement about shop profits...(its in the terms of contract in black and white). C&CC DONT ASK!!!
TAX ALLOWANCE...CC NONE C&CC allow a small tax allowance of about £120 per couple (This simply increases your tax allowance( tax code)
PENSION both clubs have a scheme which employees and employers have to pay into...the C&CC seem to wriggle out of it by having lower wages and shorter hours contracts so staff dont earn enough to qualify
LOCK INS both clubs have illegal clauses in the contract stating you must repay the cost of PPE /UNIFORM and training if you quit before a preset period( deductible from final wage slip so you would have to fight it out in the small claims court)
that just about covers it....any feedback-updates from either HR departments most welcome
we will cover the application/assessment process next time

DRINKIf your going to work on a camp site you better had. The two clubs have different approaches to booze which might tell you something about either club( don't know what ,you tellme!) The CC ask you how much you drink(in units) in a questionnaire....they also ask for your GPs phone number and address The C&CC have a different aproach! They have the right to search you for booze whilst at work ( yep its in this years contract ) I had to check the internet for the CC questionaire and was over the moon when it said 14......then i saw units.....then I saw AWEEK!!!!.most staff need that after a busy Friday night Think I'll have to borrow the daughters "Bong" as neither clubs mention crystal meth in their contracts Bye for know

HEalth
Traditionally you had to be on the way to the knackersyard to work for either club.....but that's changing slowly( well it is in one club)
We I'll start with the CC as they seem to have the strictest policy A questionnaire asks if you have any movement problems, mental problems/syndromes etc.they want your doctors address and phone number ( to check I assume).during the work experience they give you some manual work to do to check your not disabled..they want to know about meds as well
C&CC. They don't ask ( and wouldn't dare,,,,in case you told em)
Both clubs still have staff who have slipped through the net and have to be "carried for a season"...some staff are unable to talk to campers in a reasonable manner because of mental syndromes /illness,some can barely drag fat asses from behind screens,...and worse of all some actually think they could run a campsite better than the managers or wardens If your reasonably fit and have the misfortune to work with such people ..badluck..you will be carrying em all season

application and assessment process
A regular complaint from people trying to get work with either of the two big clubs is the complicated and drawn-out application process
THE CARAVAN CLUB FIRST A phone call or email to the HR dept at East Grinstead will get a postal application to you by post. You should have been a member for at least 1 year i think . Fill in the form ,( try it sober is my top tip) and send it off ...after photocopying it first so you can remember the lies you've written down later at any interview.
After many months you may be invited to an assessment/Interview where you will be given lunch, interviewed by loads of HR types( fresh out of uni....never pitched a caravan in their short cute life ). You will have to do a pointless task as a group....putting up a frame tent is the usual task. Next up is a written maths test, then its off to face an actor pretending to be a complaining customer ,then group chats with another HR type, interviews with regional mangers .If you've worked for another club its a breeze. Top tips are ;1, Take a pencil and paper into the actor session to write names down etc 2,.Take a calculator into the math test. 3 Read your application just before the day.
Next up after the interview you will be contacted and given the yes/no. If its yes you then have to attend an assessment/work exp weekend where you will "shadow" a recently sobered up assistant warden around and clean toilets, check people in ,clean up etc . Its a chance for the CC to make sure your up to the job mentally and physically( bending, carrying etc).
Then if they still like you its paperwork time. They send medical questionnaires, insurance this,Mot that....endless paperwork
Then if its all well you attend your final hurdle...a weeks training down south...then its time to start work at a camp site
The whole process can take at least a year..often a couple. Keep phoning up to check any progress and write down who and when youve spoken to HR.....they seem to have dozens of staff in HR!!!! and best of luck.

APPLICATION AND ASSESSMENT PROCESS
CAMPING AND CARAVAN CLUB
The C&CC speed up the process which might explain why people who apply to both clubs tend to get an offer from the C&CC even if the their preferred first choice was the CC
FIRST UP you ring/email for an application form, fill it in and wait( photocopy form for later and note down names and dates of who you speak to)
THEN if your suitable they invite you for a 2 day( and night ) to one of the larger sites. This will include a little work experience ...toilet cleaning most likely......a chat from some existing staff....and interview with a regional manager. Sometimes the work experience will be split off to another day to suit needs of club/yourself
THATS IT......YEP THATS IT NO TRAINING NOWT!
OFF TO SITE if they want you they will make you an offer and off you go.....training is in the hand of which ever manager you get sent to. PPE will provided if you ask for it on site. Tractor/ Mower/petrol hand tools/fire extinguisher/booking system training is all done on site by the site managers. fire ext and cleaning chemical training( ass covering for insurance purposes really) might be provided by the Rep from which ever company sells em the stuff
This speeds things up considerably and you could find yourself sat on the wrong side of reception in a C&CC site within a season if your not careful
THINGS CHANGE this info was correct for last season and as both clubs have hired new HR chiefs recently things may have been tweeked a little
