ive had interviews and been successful with both clubs
Interviews first!
CC its a nice day at Cranage Hall..excellent 3 course lunch...lots of interviews...more tea and biscuits..its all very friendly and nothing to be worried about.......top tip ...take a photocopy of your application and read it just before your interview. I spooked the girl interviewing me by pulling a copy out and having on the desk during the interviews.
You also have a group exercise during which we have to put up a large 5 man hoop tent (inside the hall!!)....your observed by a panel of young eager HR types fresh out of university who have never spent a night in a a caravan in their short lives....get stuck in and don't linger at the back is my best tip
Next up Is the "situations" a couple of actors create situations which you have to handle....if you've worked on a site b4 its a breeze but if your new to this game it might be a bit daunting...typical situations might be noisy neighbours and/or loose dogs/damage to van during mowing. If your new to this the golden rules are ,1 stay calm 2, write down names and pitch numbers( it gives you time to think also)3, never promise/say anything you might have to retract later 4 use the customers names..after you've asked em 5 remain calm as the actors try to fluster you
Then its more tea and biscuits and a group discussion with the big Chief feeding you topics and that,s that. A nice day out with lunch
C&CC.....its a bit more simple and cheaper..you trundle of to a campsite...usually Blackmore and do a bit of "work experience" and have interviews and formal presentations with lots of staff....again very cheerful but the lunch is a let down with only sandwiches and crisps
both clubs provides serviced pitches for you and even if its not a success its a nice few days away in the van
both clubs inform you by post( might even tell you during the interview even) if you've been successful and then its on the work experience

Thank-you, it seems very straightforward, what about work experience and any induction courses ?

Both clubs now run work experience. They give you a free pitch and try to give you an idea of what working on a site is like. The CC have always done this whilst the C&CC have only just started( this might explain why the C&CC have had a record of employing useless first years totally unable to cope with the demands of a busy site),hopefully this might change now ,but don't hold your breath!

Induction courses
well, the CC run good induction courses where you are trained to use all the equipment/cleaning chems you will use on site. You are trained on the computer booking system and should leave the course up and ready to start work.
The C&CC ....well......what can you say....They send you to a site and that's that! They leave it to the site managers to train you up and you can guess what that means ,cant you. Commercial strimmers, drive on mowers,4 stroke hedge cutters...all in the hands of people who never used power tools before. I'm amazed no one has every had a bad accident and sued the club.

IVe spoken to a few staff members on sites over the years and been warned about the wages/hours worked . been told that they both pay minimum wage rates and can play silly buggers with the hours worked,at least you seem to get a free pitch and leccy

WAGES!! Ill Begin!
C&CC pays minimum wage plus an extra £2o a month for 2nd years usually 38 hour contracts to start and maybe 40 hours next year they give you a pitch and leccy they give you a uniform and a small tax break for using your own unit
BUT now here is the rub.......they expect you to work for free( or small payment) during what they call stand -by...this is untill 11ish at night...booking people in and manning( or ladying) the site. this will lower your hourly rate to the £5.5 per hour rate...is this legal? well HR seem to think so!
CC A bit more straight forward, a slightly higher rate, longer paid hours( 42 ish) and less stand -by nonsense as they lock the gates at 8pm
I'm not expressing any preference here for either club as what really matter is who you get as a manager and fellow work-mates
hope this helps

I agree with oap before
Both clubs have the attitude that, "they are doing YOU a favour" by employing you at sub legal minimum wages ,relying on some gullible and pliable staff to keep some sites working...these are both large well funded businesses that hide behind a false " were all in the club together" image when it comes to employment
ps im not some Sour Bolshy union dinosaur....just don't like being taken advantage of .
sorry about the speech marks!!
