Why do people start to behave like arses when they apply to be Wardens/Managers.They really believe that they are a cut above everyone else......if they carry on like this for much longer im gonna bite and then God knows where it will lead

Couldn't agree more with that comment, 2nd years seem to think they are managers of 3rd and 4th years on our site. Thing is, they will be 9 - 5 managers, when they do get their own site, lazy isn't the word!!!

Yes,at the heart of the matter is the issue of 1st,2nd ,3rd years etc..a few points might need going over i think
First, after 2 years as AW/HSA every one should know what they are doing and the number of years you have cleaned toilets/booked people in/cut grass etc is not important.
Secondly, competent managers/wardens should realise this and stop any corrosive "lording it " by staff claiming any kind of superiority by right of simply putting up with the job for years.
Thirdly,The best way of destroying any feeling of being a team is to have a crazy system of unofficial self important "senior assistants/senior HSA".
This silly system, whilst counterproductive , will always form on any site and needs to be carefully managed by any team leader(warden/manager)
Whilst mangers and wardens have to do their bit it also falls to staff to realise that they have to leave their last proper job behind and settle into the role of toilet cleaner/grass cutter and shop staff...this sadly is very hard for some people.

REASONS TO BECOME A WARDEN/MANAGER
1 Old skool-type; these types just kinda drifted into the job..in the old days if you hung around for a few years and didnt kill anyone you ended being given a site to run. These types are like limpets on seaside rocks;the harder you try to get em off the harder they cling to power.
2 Disliked as HSA Try a Managers job instead types; We all have met these!after a few years being hated on every site they are sent to they decide to escape the universal dislike by becoming managers, god help any HSAs who end up working for these types.
3 The overkeen manager type ( think a cross between Britass and Ricky Gervais in the Office)
These types bring all the joy of their previous careers into a campsite! Campsites run by/as banks-hospitals-schools-Firestations and accounts offices.
4 lastly the Alcoholic Hsa/AW HATER..These classic managers hate the staff more than the campers...on a good the mood swings can go all the way between suicidal to spitting insane...best stay out of the way and piss in the tractor diesel just before the end of he season.

Its so sad to see them, the managers elect/senior assistants in the pool types. They come back every year on the promise of a site only to fall for the same old excuses from the club whilst every one knows they are useless and will only ever get the job when the barrel has been really scraped.Meanwhile they scowl at staff who jump over them because of merit and ability ...they are a type of CC/CCC Bedblocker i suppose

So, they have changed the requirements for HSM elect applications, will this sort out the good from the bad seeing as they have to work an extra year before they can apply. I hope so,

Surely any position should be awarded on merit and ability , even letting people who have worked on "private sites "run CC/CCC club sites if they have the skills and ability.
2-3-4-5 years working for the club doesn't demonstrate ability, simply a skill of putting up with it
The current group of "Managers elect"/"wardens in the pool" can have the effect of discouraging new fresh talent applying...knowing that every last duffer will have priority over them just because of years served regardless of talent.
The idea of appointing on a basis of years served is the Cancer not the CURE....increasing years served is no answer

It might help the recruitment process run more smoothly if H/O could get the e-mail address for applying to be a HSM right! Or is this part of an initiative test? They put out a duff e-mail address for you to write in to, you only get the interview if you realise it's been bounced back as "undeliverable"! :0
The list of Winter sites hours and start dates were totally wrong too! Perhaps someone working in HR with a modicum of intelligence might help things run smoothly too!

Should i apply to be a Warden?
Above me on the waiting list is a collection of people who have been around for years and seem to think they are owed a job as a Warden...most are old, disabled, alcoholic and only able to offer the club a few years service before they will die, break,be arrested or kill someone with the mower.
Its A little depressing and discouraging

Both sites are hard work .Abbeywood runs on 0 offset most of the time ,chocker with Italians and arrivals from 9am.Brighton is full of snotty non-members campers who expect to be waited on .Whilst Abbeywood does fine with low levels of complaints Brighton has had a string of complaints recently. recent staff changes will not reduce the complaints me thinks . neither will the planned extension of hated pods at the site . It will be interesting to see what happens at both sites next year, the sites are beyond most of the old school types in the CC .Whilst Windeat has been actively recruiting more new staff into the club these younger, keener sorts have yet to filter through to have any effect.

yep seems that its been a grotty season at Brighton so far what with staff falling out and being removed and toilet refurbs and constant complaints, most of the complaints are down to the "type" of customer coming in the gate it has to said. but..this is Brighton

I hope so, How come when they can change the requirements for HSA Elects when they have picked who they want and everyone knows that there going to pass and hey presto they will end up like the rest of the HSM's. who say they wont change yet they all do and have great pleasure in giving us a hard time and forget we are supposed to be a team and yet there is some who forget there is no 'I' . it is all who you know and face fits not what you know.
